What's new
There's much going on at The House of Flags Museum as we prepares for our new location in the heart of Columbus, N.C.House of Flags news: The latest on our work
The interior remodeling is progressing. The new lobby and restroom additions are complete. Ceilings are painted flat black. A new stairway was built to the 2nd floor. The gift shop wall was added. Two handicap ramps are nearing completion to connect the 3 ground floor rooms.
We decided NOT to remove the second floor in the large room. Structural work proved much too expensive and time consuming. So, we will have a large second floor to be remodeled in Phase 2, largely thanks to a Timken Foundation grant for the Presentation room, conference room, and library.
Overhead doors have been closed in as have the downstairs windows. Upstairs we have installed energy efficient windows. The HVAC system is in the final stages of completion as is the new electrical system throughout.
Large commercial carpet tiles have been purchased to cover the entire ground floor.
Three flag poles have arrived and are to be planted in front. Annin Flag Company donated the tallest for the American flag. The remaining flag poles have also been donated by members of our community.
We have been blessed with many fine volunteer helpers, wonderful contractors, and thoughtful, generous donors.
